IACS / Class Certification
Dedicated to safe ships and clean seas, the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) contributes to maritime safety and regulation through technical support, compliance verification and research and development. More than 90% of the world's cargo carrying tonnage is covered by the classification design, construction and through-life compliance Rules and Standards set by the ten Member Societies and two Associates of IACS.
The DSAS ship security alert system is IACS certified by the following bodies, with all tests meeting or exceeding the requirements of the guidelines laid out in IACS Unified Requirement E10 and the relevant sections of IEC945.
Validity of type approval certification for marine products
In recognition of concerns that misunderstanding may exist among port State control officers regarding some of the Type Approval certificates issued for marine products IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee issued a circular to clarify.
Extract from IMO MSC1/Circ 1221
3 The Committee also agreed that the validity of the Type Approval Certificate itself has no influence on the operational validity of a product accepted and installed onboard a ship and that a product manufactured during the period of validity of the relevant Type Approval Certificate need not be renewed or replaced due to expiration of such Type Approval Certificate.
4 Member Governments are invited to bring this decision to the attention of the national Authorities in charge of port State control activities and all other parties concerned.
